          When answers to a question require more than using a rating scale or other standard closed-end response, SDW has the expertise to organize responses into categories that are meaningful to you as well as manageable for tabulating.

          Our full time coding staff has an average of six years' experience helping clients identify and categorize the underlying themes that consumers are trying to convey. The team, who have a thorough understanding of the project and your information needs, carefully review the data and then develop clear and meaningful categories for organizing responses for each open-ended question. Then, all responses are carefully coded into the client-approved categories.

Open-Ended Question Coding

          Codebooks are developed with your approval, and questions coded to assure that responses can be presented in a quantifiable manner. Codebooks are continuously amended to assure that unclassified responses ("Other") are kept to a minimum. Full verbatim text is kept for all unclassified answers.
